Hi,

After migrating gentoo to new laptop, and updating hardware accordingly,
I've noticed I don't have beeping warning in console or xterm anymore.

all sound apps seem to work fine, as well as speak-test command.

beep is activated in /etc/inputrc

Any idea what I am missing?

Thks 4 ur attention.

On my HP Compaq nc6320 I've lost the beep on upgrading gentoo-sources fom 3.10.x to 3.12.x
And it never came back with later kernels.

Could you please post that relevant line here? (I seem to not have "beep" in that file.)

Do you have CONFIG_INPUT_PCSPKR activated in your kernel?

There are two ways beeps can be handled on laptops.

Either the "system" speaker (which is used by the pcspkr module) that gets routed through the audio codec

Or if the audio codec handles beeps itself.

You might wanna check alsamixer for suspicious mixers to unmute/turn up.

No such an option isn't activated,
I'll give a try "maybe since my laptop is budget, maybe formerly implicit piece of hardware are now been taken out of the minimal scheme".
For the last 6 weeks I've also been updating kernel from 3.10 to 3.17.

As requested :
Quote:
# /etc/inputrc: initialization file for readline
#
# For more information on how this file works, please see the
# INITIALIZATION FILE section of the readline(3) man page
#
# Quick dirty little note:
# To get the key sequence for binding, you can abuse bash.
# While running bash, hit CTRL+V, and then type the key sequence.
# So, typing 'ALT + left arrow' in Konsole gets you back:
# ^[[1;3D
# The readline entry to make this skip back a word will then be:
# "\e[1;3D" backward-word
#

# do not bell on tab-completion
#set bell-style none

Did CONFIG_INPUT_PCSPKR fixed it?

Thks 4 ur attention, interest & support

Nope. Not after kernel 3.10.x
