|
|
I suddenly got the message
Code: | ERROR: udev needs service(s) dev-mount |
After booting my laptop.
Code: | # /etc/init.d/devfs start
|
tells me that it's running.
Code: | # /etc/init.d/devfs restart
* WARNING: you are stopping a sysinit service
#
|
However on a different system I can do it:
Code: | /etc/init.d/devfs restart
* WARNING: you are stopping a sysinit service
* WARNING: you are stopping a sysinit service
* Stopping udev ... [ ok ]
* Remounting devtmpfs on /dev ... [ ok ] |
How can I get devfs running again?

pgu ...
please tell us what versions of sys-apps/openrc and sys-fs/udev-init-scripts are installed:
Code: | # for p in sys-apps/openrc sys-fs/udev-init-scripts ; do eix '-I*' --format '<installedversions:NAMEVERSION>' $p ; done |

Thanks for the hint. It was my openrc which was not up to date. Which is a little odd since I did a world update right before the problem started. Now I'll have to figure out what happened to my wifi firmware... |

pgu ... you're welcome. I'm not sure what's happening in that regard as I have the openrc update masked currently. As for you firmware loading, I believe there was some change to udev ITR, so perhaps you're updating from a version in which that would occur, to one where it doesn't.

The firwmare part was resolved by enabling some generic driver kernel option (the solution was found here at forums.gentoo.org). |

Hello!
I had the same exact problem after an "emerge -uDavN --with-bdeps y world": openrc didn't get updated!
Had to boot from CD since the keyboard didn't work anymore because of this, fixed by emergin openrc. Strange it didn't emerge while updating world, though.

I just had this problem as well. World update did not update openrc.
I call "BUG!"
Now I have to boot CD... _________________ Some day there will only be free software. |

Unfortunately updating openRC did not solve my problem...
Anyone had this issue or have any suggestions? _________________ Some day there will only be free software. |

For me the problem was: I tried to install eudev a while ago and still had the global USE="eudev" in my make.conf.
I changed it to udev and emerge -DNuv @world and that fixed it.
Big mistake. _________________ Some day there will only be free software. |
