Hi there,
I'm in a situation that I need to keep two different versions of the dev-lang/R package at the same install. The problem is the Gentoo Development Guide for slotting is too short and doesn't provide sufficient information to that. Could someone, please, give me a help on this topic? The thing would be as simple as edit the corresponding SLOT versions of the the ebuilds and emege them? How do I know which slotted version I'm running? Is it possible to choose them somehow from eselect?
Any help is appreciated,
Best

EDIT: closing topic - it seems there is no easy way but code ebuilds.

Well one thing about slotting is that you have to slot the other package in portage too, not just the one you want to slot... so it's quite a bit of work too. They have to have unique file and installation names which needs to be also maintained in the ebuild... So it's not as straightforward as editing just one file unless the others are already slotted?
