When I attempt to drag my music/video directory into the VLC application (it should add it to the playlist) I just get an Icon of the folder....and thats it.
Terminal output:

Hey. Had the same issue. Try this:
open ~/.config/vlc/vlcrc:
| Code: | | gedit ~/.config/vlc/vlcrc |
change
to
