|
|
Hi everyone,
I've being looking for a way to change the profiles that I have by default on my Gentoo when I type:
Code: | eselect profile list |
And the closest I've reached is this, but I don't think thats usefull enought since what I want is to create, remove or modify existing profiles on my Gentoo.
Is there a way to do that? Or a doc/man I just wasn't able to find?
Thanks in advance.

Understanding the background would make it easier to help. |

@Jaglover: I'll do and maybe I faill and maybe I have to restore my system with back ups. Now I have no idea of how to do this (no more Idea beyond sym links), but when I'll end doing this (because I will) I would have learn something new. The only question here is do you know how to help? Or annoy is the only think you really want?.
@charles17: I dont think I need it, but want it, because I want to have just the things I'm using and I want to keep them usefull but right now I have 20 profiles and only 1 is usefull to me.That makes me feel I'm wasting interesting tools of this OS.

No need to be edgy, here you get help AND GOOD ADVICE so take Jaglover's post as being the latter. Portage of course provides the user with the ability to overwrite all of the defaults via /etc/portage. You can create your own profile in /etc/portage/profile. It doesn't need to be complete - whatever you explicitly specify will overwrite its defaults, otherwise, the default will be used. You shouldn't mess with /usr/portage/profiles, because:
1) This way it's harder to clean things up if you mess them up
2) All changes will be overwritten during your next sync
Have a look at that: Portage_Profile_Logic and the manpage of portage and make.conf. That, along with looking through the stuff in /usr/portage/profiles (without modifying them) should be enough.

I'm not sure I understand what your problem/goal is |

Thanks a lot AaylaSecura something like that was what I was looking for. And if i got edgy with Jaglover is because he thinks he can say other people what to do, and I hate that, if my system fails, it's ok that would teach me something new, but not doing anything just because it can crash doesnt make any sense to me, specially having back ups. |
