I managed to get wpa_supplicant installed and wlan configured such that it connects and handles the ciphering, but
what should I do to get the wireless (using DHCP) up by default? There is no net-setup, and I don't have ethernet cable available, so
the networking doesn't 'just work'.

Ah, got it working by giving command 'dhcpcd', but it would be nice if that happens at the start-up.
Also 'links' did work. (somehow 'gopher' came to mind...). :D

turboscrew,

Code:
dhcpcd <interface_name>
is a good start, after you are authenticated.

Yes. :)
I realized. First time I started wpa_supplicant in the background. Didn't work too well.

How should I make it default - or should I?
Maybe I should set up KDE first, and use the graphical tools now that I can get the net up by terminal commands?
Now I should be able to install stuff without chrooting.

You could have wpa_supplicant controlled by dhcpcd automatically https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Wpa_supplicant#Setup_for_dhcpcd_as_network_manager so you only need dhcpcd in runlevel default.

Yes. That's it. I'll check how the services were added on the default runlevel.
Thanks.
