This is a branch of https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=17531
(Auditing a samba server), I figured it deserved a new topic for archive searching purposes.

Does anyone know how (or with what program, possibly in conjunction with FAM) I can get my linux system to log the changes users make to the file system?

Ideally the output would look something like this:
<date> <time> <username> <file/directory> <event>
and go to syslogd or /var/log

I have seen fileschanged, but it does not keep track of who did what and would not help me much in a multi-user environment.

Thanks,
Arne
