|
|
I recently installed Gentoo 2.4-rc1. After doing an "emerge --update world", I couldn't run any programs. Every time I tried, I got a "segmentation fault." So I rebooted, and got a "segmentation fault" message when I tried to log in.
So... I booted from a "live gentoo" cdrom, mounted the partition where I have my gentoo installation, and tried to do a chroot. Got a "segmentation fault" again.
In desperation, I unpacked the original stage 3 tarball, writing over my installation, did a bit of fine-tuning, and rebooted. That worked, and so far everything *seems* fine.
I'm sure it's too late to figure out why Gentoo died on me. But for future reference, I'd like to know which programs/packages were producing the segmentation fault. (It certainly wasn't the kernel, because I am still running the same one.)
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Perhaps gcc was upgraded during the emerge and caused some problems. Just a guess though. _________________ Quis separabit? Quo animo? |

glibc is another thing that can hurt a whole system pretty badly if it gets messed up. _________________ For every higher wall, there is a taller ladder |
