hi guys,
I tried to install gentoo on a old ppc notebook (toilet like design) and i can't modprobe sungem module.
It seems that this module isnt on the 1.2 iso (166MB)
When i first installed it with an older release it was no prob to modbrobe sungem and continue with the install, unfortunately i dont have this iso/cd any more.
I'd be thankfull to hear how i can get networking go.
Since i dont know much about tbz2 files i see in release 1.4_rc1/ppc folder, i'd like to know if and how i can boot/install from those, shouldn't there be an iso file? |

if it's the 1.2-r1 ISO thenyou dont need to modprobe, sungem is built into the kernel.
There is no 1.4_r1 ISO, you use the 1.2 ISo to boot and then scp/wget the tarball you want. |

Hi Gerk,
well i dl the 1.2-r1 iso burned on CD-RW booted from it and i see the kernel lookin for it during PCI boot autodection procedure but doesnt get it to work.
I just see that a Sungem (rev ff) was/is there but not workin not getting installed.
I further read on the CD's ppc install txt that there are props with sungem and to trie and load it up as a module. This didnt work for me ;(
Well i dunno what todo now and pray for a new release
thanks in advance

dimi:
try just ifconfig eth0 blah balh.. it should already be in kernel! no need to load it, we included eth drivers for apple based machiens right in kernel (not modules anymore) |
