Hi,
my problem is , i cant print under gentoo.

After 5 hours i give up ;) and need external help , pls.

My printer is a Canon S750 .
I can print under Mandrake and Window$.
The printer connected to USB.
I have USB compiled as module and it load fine.

usb-core
usb-ohci
hid
printer

i tried "cat test.txt > /dev/usb/lp0" , which still exist.
After that ,the led of the printer blink only once and that was it.
No printout.

Well , i can select the printer in the KDE Control program,
connected to /dev/usb/lp0

So what ??????????:S

"ls -ls /dev/usb/lp0" gives me a :

*************************
root@master djoi # ls -ls /dev/usb/lp0
0 crw-rw---- 1 root root 180, 0 1970-01-01 /dev/usb/lp0
*************************

Any ideas ?

Hi,
Its a ECS K7S5A Mainboard with SIS 735 Chipset...

I'll check it with Mandrake ;) but as i know i used the same with
Gentoo 1.2 and there i could print without any problems.

The other thing is , i own an USB Mouse which do the job as
she should.

But i'll try the other ..maybe it work.

Na , its the usb-ohci , Mandrake load it too and if i try to insmod the
usb-uhci module i got an error.

I think it must have something to do with permissions or the driver.
"cat test.txt > /dev/usb/lp0" doesnt work with Mandrake too but i
can print over an application without problem.

Is there any other way to access the printer without a driver , if then ,
then it should be a problem with the driver.
I hope there come an ebuild with foomatic in the next day, then i can
try the same driver like under MD.

OK , anothe helpful ( i hope) Take is , with the use of the
driver from turboprint , i ca n do a printtest.
When i try the printhead cleaning , it work and 2 letters are printed like it should be.
Then i can do the justify of printhead test and this one work too
(2 letters printed out in Color and looks like it should be)

BUT when i try to print a testpage , nothing happens.

So it can connect to the printer and print color pages etc. for some tests but
normal printout or testpage dont work. :S very strange.
Maybe, its a little hint i need ;)

All running now :D

Must be a driver problem.

I un/re-emerged cups and gimp-print again , copied all from MD's
/etc/foomatic and /etc/cups to my gentoo stuff and now it works
without any problem.

I readed here, some peepz have the same problems with their canon , so
maybe this can help you (or not ;))

Bye
