mplayer error: no audio codec(for some mpgs)but xine play it

hello,

something very strange is happening. when i try to play some .mpg with mplayer it gives this error message:
couldnt initialize audio codec -> no sound
but when i run the same file with xine it plays correctly...
any clues?
