During bootstrap, about 15 minutes in I get an error that :

!!! gcc-3.2.tar.bz2: message digests do not match!

And it lists some digest #'s.

I have tried 3 times, with the same result.

Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong, or is the gcc-3.2 package in a state of flux ?

thanks

Have you tried downloading it three times? Are you making sure you remove the gcc source tarball from /usr/portage/distfiles before trying each time?

Sure am!

Deleting the file from /usr/portage/distfiles/

I took a step back and am trying the stage1 tarball from the website dated SEP-08 instead of the one on the 1.4_rc1 cd to see if I can clear up the mismatch. (I don't know if this will help, seemed to be a logical thing to try)

thanks for the reply

That worked :)

Either the stage1 tarball was outdated or corrupt that was on the rc_1 cd. Pulling the stage1 from the website via lynx and then doing the install guide steps got me past it.

Ah, that solves my problem. If this works and I get my system up and running I'm going to be really happy and give the gentoo people some money.
