|
|
I receive this message when I enter fdisk on my
Maxtor 80GB ATA133 IDE.
The number of cylinders for this disk is set to 9xxx.
There is nothing wrong with that, but this is larger than 1024,
and could in certain setups cause problems with:
1) software that runs at boot time (e.g., old versions of LILO)
2) booting and partitioning software from other OSs
(e.g., DOS FDISK, OS/2 FDISK)
I wonder what problem will happen in the future?
Am I thinking too much? |

Yes, You are.
It will only give problems if you use really, extra, very, unbelievable old bootloaders, or partitioning software. If you use a version grub or lillo from the portage tree as bootloader, you will not experience problems. If you also use windows, just see it's newer then 3.1. The windows program partition magic will also not give problems.
Only old software for dos/win 3.1 can cause problems.
So, don't worry, (be happy ) |
