Heres a grub.conf sample so someone else can game after install-failure.
Quote:

#
# Sample boot menu configuration file
#

# Boot automatically after 20 secs.
timeout 20

# By default, boot the first entry.
default 0

# Fallback to the second entry.
fallback 1

# For booting GNU/Linux
title GNU/Linux
root (hd0,0)
kernel /kernel-2.6.3-gentoo-r2 root=/dev/ram0 init=/linuxrc real_root=/dev/hda6
initrd /initrd-2.6.3-gentoo-r2
This grub.conf file was made for the following setup:
BOOT-partiition = /dev/hda1 = (hd0,0)
ROOT-partition = /dev/hda6 = (hd0,5)

_____
I have tried to follow the install notes...
no luck (and experimenting)

I have intalled the genkernel (livecd)

I´d like a print of how my grub.conf on these basis:

/boot = /dev/hda1
/ = /dev/hda6
Kernel-2.6.3-gentoo-rc2 (<-- this is the name but correct to address it like that?)

All efforts on altering my boot-options to Grub renders: Error 15
File not found So im all messed up!!! Cant get the right $path´s :-(

I had the same prolem. Just take out -gentoo from the Kernel line (assuming you have the correct path).

Hope this helps

Its a long shot! ;)

But did you remember to mount /boot before you do the grub things ....?

Sorry if its obvious and you have done it, but its easy to forget, and everything looks fine, but nothing gets found when you boot.
