This is what i get:

Initialising xMule
Xlib: extension "RENDER" missing on display ":1.0".
split read, found : 0

OOPS! - Seems like xMule crashed
--== BACKTRACE FOLLOWS: ==--

[0] /usr/lib/libgobject-2.0.so.0(_GLOBAL_OFFSET_TABLE_+0) [0x50480b08]

Plz note that i am trying to run it through a vnc connection running xfce4
The machine is a ss10 with 64 mb of ram

Quite frankly if Xlib is complaining then the problem can be outside xmule. It seems that Xlib has a probelm with the display for some reason. Can you post our xfree86 log?
Do other applications crash with the same error?
Did you try this on gnome?
