When trying to emerge glib I get the following error:

This obviously prevents me from being able to emerge glib and therefore from upgrading my system. I also get this error when trying to emerge fluxconf:
Quote: |
ln: creating symbolic link `/data/portage/fluxconf-0.8.5/image//usr/bin/fluxkeys' to `/data/portage/fluxconf-0.8.5/image//usr/bin/fluxconf': Operation not permitted

make[3]: Leaving directory `/data/portage/fluxconf-0.8.5/work/fluxconf-0.8.5'

make[2]: Leaving directory `/data/portage/fluxconf-0.8.5/work/fluxconf-0.8.5'
make[1]: *** [install-am] Error 2
make[1]: Leaving directory `/data/portage/fluxconf-0.8.5/work/fluxconf-0.8.5'
make: *** [install-recursive] Error 1
!!! ERROR: The ebuild did not complete successfully.

It seems as if ln isn't running with root permissions, but I envoke emerge with sudo (and I've tried su'ing and then emerging with the same results). What might be going on? I have blown away everything in my PORTAGE_TMPDIR and everything under /usr/portage and rsyncing again. I'm at a complete loss as to what may be going on... |

What type of filesystem is this being built on? _________________ For every higher wall, there is a taller ladder |

Currently being build on vfat (needed a large disk, but the only disk I had laying around with enough space is a 20gig disk that was used in a PC and I still need to back up the data before I reformat to ext3) and installed onto a ext3 fs. |

FYI, I reformatted the drive with ext3 instead of it's old fat32 (vfat) format and everything works fine now... I could have sworn that I built a number of the packages that were failing off of the drive, but I guess my memory just sucks! |
