Ok, I'm new to Gentoo and trying to install on two different systems on two different networks. One of them is able to do an emerg sync just fine. On the one at my office I'm getting the following error:
Code:
rsync: failed to connect to rsync.gentoo.org: Connection Refused
rsync error: error in socket IO (code 10) at clientserver.c(97)

I'm guessing that I'm needing to open a port in the firewall. Can anyone tell me what port I might need to open or if it's not a port issue what I might need to do? We have no proxy servers here, just a standard firewall that defaults to everything closed unless we open it specificly. I have opened ports 2401 and 5999 because I thought from glancing through the script that it was using cvs. Any direction here would be appreciated. Thank you.

man rsync reveals:
Quote:
--port=PORT
This specifies an alternate TCP port number to use
rather than the default port 873.
I don't know for certain that Gentoo uses 873, but I've not read that they've changed it, so you might try opening up that port.

Many thanks for the tip. I'll give that a shot and see what happens.

Opened port 873 on the firewall outbound and everything works great. Thanks again for the info.
