Ok, so here's my situation:
- I'm running 1.4rc1 with XFree 4.2.1 on a B&W G4 with an AGP Rage128 card

- I compiled the 1.4rc1 ppc kernel with builtin UniNorth AGPGART support and builtin Rage128 support

- My system detects the UniNorth, AGP and Rage128 at startup

- I have my XF86Config file setup as follows:
Option "Display" "CRT" (to use the VGA output, I think, more on this later)
Option "UseFBDev"
Driver "ati"
VendorName "ATI"
BoardName "Rage 128 Pro PF"
BusID "PCI:0:16:0"

- I get the following errors:
First of all, when I do a startx, I get a strange pattern on the screen consisting of a bunch of white squares in what appears to be a woven pattern (like so):
Code:

/  /  /  /
\  \  \  \
/  /  /  /

I believe this is just garbage, but I'm not sure why I get anything at all when it seems that it can't find the display. If I simply press alt+f1 to return to the console, I get my console back, garbage is gone, and I have these two errors:

1) (EE) R128(0): No DFP Detected (Despite my attempt to tell the R128, which has both DVI and VGA outputs to use the VGA output)
2) (EE) R128(0): [agp] Could not map ring

So, my question is, can I get DRI/AGP support for my Rage128 working, or am I doomed? And if not, how would I go about just getting this thing to work at all (and preferably with the best possible acceleration). Thanks everyone,

STEFAN WROBEL

EDIT: I could get an Xsession to run (with the same errors, I guess it reverted to PCI mode), but when I try to run a gnome-session (which is all I had tried), I get the problem above.

two suggestions... make sure you are botting the kernel with video=atyfb (it seems like it may be using of video from the lines)

secondly, try a newer kernel (gentoo-sources-dev might work), I think there have been some AGp fixups in there, not positive though.

Also, the no DFP detected means it didnt' detect a flat plaenl attached to the DVI port (assuming you don't have one).

The agp ring map seems to be a kernel problem, but should still work (falls back to pci mode). I have it running great on my r128 here, get approx 450 fps in glxgears, running xfree 4.2.1 (still makes in portage I think).

Thanks for the prompt reply! I assumed it was looking for DFP and only DFP but I guess it outputs to both the DFP and the CRT. I'll check out the option of compiling a new kernel. I think it's using the ATI framebuffer mode, but I'll doulbe-check my yaboot.conf.

Tried to get DRI working on my RagePro Turbo 6 MB... didn't work. :-)
Used the latest DRI-CVS from the mach64-0-0-5 branch.

But, it could draw something actually! Glxgears crashes..

Hey, mabye it will work in half a year or something! :-)
