Hello,

Is it possible or feasible to inplement the ability to search through individual threads?

When doing a search the returns can sometimes be over 20 pages long which is quite a task to plough through and is very time consuming. I think it would be far easier to then be able to search that thread and it's 20+ pages.

Any thoughts?

That would be a good feature, but I think that it's more of a phpBB thing.

Yes, that would be a Great Feature. Sometimes some asks a question and there was an answer about 10 pages back, but can't seem to find it today.

Actually I would just like even a better main search. You have to use boolean and it splits words that have some hyphen or period,.. in them.

That's my biggest gripe with search right there. Is it even possible to search for "foo X.Y.Z-rcN"? Makes it very difficult to look up problems with a partiuclar package or kernel version.

Exactly, when trying to eliminate garbage and get actual results you need to be able to enter stuff like that. No wonder a lot of people do a quick search and then post. Good chance the answer is in there or something that might lead to an answer, but it is hidden in a really lousy search engine.

We could probably cut the posts by 30-50% if the search engine was better. Now I pulled those numbers out of my A$$, but bet I am close.

I agree with Decibels. Would it be possible to use Google or some similar technique for the search engine?

I would also like to be able to search just the subjects.

You can search the forums with google. Just append site:forums.gentoo.org to your google search words.

Another search tip is the address bar search, very convenient! http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=120453
