I am trying to get my DVD player to work. I've installed Mplayer
and Ogle and both play the dvd with sound but the
screen is completely black.
Is there some piece of software common to both Ogle and
Mplayer that controls how video is written to the screen?

p.s. I have an ATI-All-in-wonder-Radeon 8500DV graphics card,
a COMPAQ TFT5030 LCD monitor, and and my USE variable
has "dvd" set. |

Have you installed the decss libs?
Are you running them through xv?
Do mpegs play properly?
Additional data does wonders...

Are you using the the DRI r200 driver? I am and the only video out option that works for me is xvidix.
So you might try: mplayer -vo xvidix |
