Using ttyS1, camera will not allow file deletion

I have my Kodak DC290 camera connected to ttyS1 (couldn't get USB working) to download pictures using gphoto2. It downloads fine, but I get a "file system does not support deletion of files" error when I try to delete images from the camera. Gphoto tells the camera is capable of this, and it does it in windows. Is there something I can do to allow deletion over ttyS1?
