Hello,

The idea of combining FreeBSD's kernel with GNU and a (-)Linux distro is very interesting and I have been looking for one that actually worked and still alive. It seems like a few projects have tried that marriage but they failed miserably.

Do you any of you know if there is extensive documentation about this project?

I already spent a few weeks looking through the following wikis and they are outdated, missing details, some assets were removed, etc...

https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Gentoo_FreeBSD
https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Gentoo_FreeBSD/Project_notes
https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Gentoo_FreeBSD/Upgrade_Guide
https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Gentoo_FreeBSD/Developers_Note
https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Gentoo_FreeBSD/Install_Guide
https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Gentoo_FreeBSD/Experimental
https://wiki.debian.org/Debian_GNU/kFreeBSD

And waiting for our friends at https://wiki.hyperbola.info/doku.php?id=en:manual:contrib:hyperbolabsd_faq to release developer's documentation.

Hello,

So far as I know, not enough peoples was able to maintain it. It could be called dead or sleeping at this point.

If you reach enough peoples interested it could be a thing back, but I do not think that'll be much a thing anymore, all project around mixing a BSD kernel along GNU and tools around a classic linux distro (as GNU/kFreeBSD Debian with dpkg, or with portage…) seems to die, like a sad damnation for these crazy souls .

You'll have I guess to find peoples liking enough both environment to make it a things back !

Good luck.

Regards,
GASPARD DE RENEFORT Kévin

myga,

All the ebuilds that supported Gentoo on BSD are still in git.
You could turn the clock back and start with an Gentoo on BSD as it really was when it was alive.
The method would be something like Historical Gentoo.

Now the tricky bit ... updating the ebuilds of interest to the present day.

Noice! No guarantees it'll work but looks fun to try, thx.
