As I'm a heavy user of Notepad++, I'm looking for a Gentoo Replacement that doesn't pull in a whole bunch of Gnome or KDE to run.

System will use Fluxbox as the WM, so I prefer as light weight as possible. One thing I no longer find in the package database is QTeditor. Very similar to Notetab++ but it was QT3 If I recall correctly as it's been over decade since I've run Gentoo.

Looking through the app-editors category, two that might meet your requirements are:

* app-editors/sublime-text, which is only available in testing, and requires accepting the Sublime license.

* app-editors/nedit, which is Motif-based.

app-editors/leafpad
app-editors/mousepad

My primary GUI text editor is leafpad. I keep mouepad for old time's sake.

Thanks for the suggestions. Forgot about nedit and will have to check the package list for both leafpad and mousepad

Not sure of the Sublime - have to check the license terms as some of them are stupid. If it's not GPL/BSD I don't bother with due to a lack of developer resources or if corporate, what are they selling?

EDIT:
Looked at the Sublime website and not very impressed. Couldn't find the license for Linux on it and it looks to be more of an afterthought meaning the license can and will change.

Like the looks of Mousepad so it may be useful to me. Leafpad is a bit to sparse now - appears closer to notepad but still usable.

If Qt is not an issue:

- Featherpad

and

- Feathernotes

with different use-cases are pretty good.

Oh... notes is only in my local overlay still... hmmm.

Not that i'm a Sublime user / advocate myself - i use Emacs and Vi(m) :-) - but for future reference, the licenses for software available in the main repo are available in `var/db/repos/gentoo/licenses/`. In particular, that directory contains a file called `Sublime`.

i've just added FeatherPad to the list of GUI editors on the 'Text editor' page on the wiki; if people have any editor recommendations that aren't already included on the page, please feel free to add them. :-)
