I have three fairly old installs (all routinely updated), but back when they were installed make.conf resided in /etc. Seems make.conf is assumed to be in /etc/portage nowadays. 3 Qs:

1) Should I just move my make.conf files into /etc/portage?

2) Is it that simple?

3) Are/were there other changes made to basic layout back when that (/etc/make.conf --> /etc/portage/make.conf) move occurred that I should also make?

Hoping to get my ducks in a row before the profile upgrades.

thanks,
-mark

Edit to add:
I punted on the move because the man page for make.conf says both are valid, _and_ there exists also a link /etc/make.profile --> {some profile stuff} that doesn't exist in /etc/portage -- maybe make.conf and make.profile need to exist in same place, I don't know. Old locations are still valid so maybe move things around long after this profile update is my thinking, if at all.

Also, I have neither binutils.conf nor binrepos.conf.

thanks for help.

New things were added like package.accept_keywords and repos.conf and binutils.conf, but most old things still work
