Code:
(chroot) livecd / # df -h
Filesystem      Size  Used Avail Use% Mounted on
efivarfs        256K   49K  203K  20% /sys/firmware/efi/efivars
udev             10M     0   10M   0% /dev
shm             3.9G     0  3.9G   0% /dev/shm
run             3.9G     0  3.9G   0% /run
tmp             3.9G     0  3.9G   0% /tmp
tmpfs           3.9G  3.8G  173M  96% /etc/resolv.conf
/dev/vda1      1022M  4.0K 1022M   1% /efi

I'm at the handbook section titled "Optional: Updating the Gentoo ebuild repository"

Looks like tmpfs is full giving the error, not sure how to proceed, could use a hand.

Thanks in advance.

EDIT: I have a ~230GB root partition just waiting on vda3, can I mount that early for it to use? I haven't read ahead to see when that becomes useful, but it's there unutilized at this point.

I'm not sure you have everything installed in the right place. It looks like you unpacked the stage3 to your ramdisk/tmpfs instead of your virtual disk so you may have forgotten the step to mount your /dev/vda3 to /mnt/gentoo or wherever is convenient for you...

Doing the emerge --sync should be done after you chroot into your new image, or after your first boot.

Thanks, seems I missed the part where I was supposed to mount /vda2 as /mnt/gentoo, at the bottom of the 'preparing disks' section of the handbook.
All is well now.
