I'm having a problem with the nvidia kernel driver too... I installed a couple days ago without problem... Now Emerge gets the 2.4.18 sources, pathes them the installs...
Will --nodeps work for that? I'm quite new to linux in general, so you'll have to excuse my ignorance.
Modprobe reports it's not found (NVdriver) and so does insmod. When I moved NVdriver from /lib/modules/2.4.19-gentoo/kernel/video to /lib/modules/2.4.19-r1/kernel/video and retry it tells me there are some unresolved symbols and won't load the driver.
I'm a little confused, as it worked not 2 days ago. Now it doesn't.
Should I try the same thing? "emerge --nodeps media-vidio/nvidia-kernel" |

The nvidia driver install a bit funny I think. They don't get the kernel version from your running kernel, but rather from the /usr/src/linux symlink. So, if an emerge, emerges a newer kernel version the /usr/src/linux symlink is changed, and the drivers are compiled for that version instead of the one you are running.
So, check the /usr/src/linux symlink, and correct it to your running kernel, and re-emerge the nvidia-kernel module.
Another thing that might be worth mentioning, is that mostly you can't use modules from one kernel version in another version (sometimes not even the same version, if it is compiled differently).
I hope this helps, just a little _________________ //ProGuy |

Thanks pro
I guess that would explain why I had the unresolved symbols when I moved the driver?
I'll have to check that symlink. My thanks for the advice, I'll let ya know what happens, considering I'm stuck on Win XP for now X is a pain in the ass without those drivers.
Cheers, again

Thanks alot Pro, that got it working... Checked the symlink, and it was pointing to 2.4.19-gentoo, just as you said, reset it and all went well...
Thanks for the help ; ) |
