Hello,
I have both KDE 3.0.3 and KDE CVS installed on my system (I didn't use emerge for the CVS version, just compiled + installed manually).
If I log in to KDE-3.0.3, and then exit and log in to KDE-CVS, my fonts are displayed much larger than if I simply log in to KDE-CVS directly. See the screenshots at http://www.30doradus.org/kde3.html.
Notice that it isn't using different fonts; it's that the same fonts appear to be sized differently. Does anyone know why this might be happening?
Normally, this would be just a weird annoyance, but it's actually a symptom of a larger problem. I'm a developer for a KDE app (kstars). When I log in directly to KDE-CVS (so I have the small fonts), kstars runs very poorly, with XFree86 taking up huge chunks of the CPU even when the program is idle. If I minimize the kstars window, the CPU usage falls immediately to zero. Now, if I log into KDE-3.0.3 instead, and then exit and log in to KDE-CVS (now I have big fonts), I have no problem running kstars. The CPU usage is negligible when the program is idle (as it should be).
Anyway, I'm hoping the font issue sounds familiar to someone, and that resolving it will make my kstars problem go away! This doesn't happen on my other (non-Gentoo) machine.
Specs: AMD 1700/k7s5a MoBo. ATi Radeon 7500. 384 MB SDRAM.
gcc 2.95.3. Kernel 2.4.19-gentoo-r7
thanks for any hints/guesses/info!
cheers,

I don't have an idea. What happens if before the relogin to kde-cvs kdm is restarted (from kdm's menu button) _________________ There's someone in my head but it's not me - Pink Floyd |

Update: I updated kdelibs, and the font issue went away. However, kstars is still giving me the same trouble _________________ LMCBoy |
