low bandwidth mirror done, located here, and guide updated with a disclaimer that the guide assumes that they already know how to compile a kernel.

you forgot to update the EXTRAVERSION, it's still at 2.6.2-rc3-mm1 :). Otherwise very nice work, keep it up!

I always forget the EXTRAVERSION. I need to write that in big bold letters on my forehead.

I knew someone would get the reference. The remake wasn't nearly as good as the original. The original was scary for the fact that it was raw and didn't have all of the special effects. Jessica Biel was nice to look at through the whole new movie.

Code:
[02:26:37][~] -> hdparm -t /dev/hda | grep disk
 Timing buffered disk reads:  124 MB in  3.18 seconds =  39.02 MB/sec
[02:28:52][~] -> hdparm -t /dev/hda | grep disk
 Timing buffered disk reads:  130 MB in  3.20 seconds =  40.64 MB/sec
[02:29:06][~] -> hdparm -t /dev/hda | grep disk
 Timing buffered disk reads:  136 MB in  3.05 seconds =  44.57 MB/sec

my normal is 45-47mb/s so its not quite the normal but its better than rc2-*.
i've made a no-warnings patch @ http://oneofone.limitlessfx.com/love-sources/2.6.2-rc3-love1-nowarnings.patch.bz2
apply it with : (cd /usr/src/linux-2.6.2-rc3-love1 && bzcat /path/to/2.6.2-rc3-love1-nowarnings.patch.bz2 | patch -p1 -R )

peace

I changed the ebuild to pull from my site, of course.

Looking forward to compiling and testing...thanks steel!

Yes, it does :(
Half an hour ago I got this:
Code:
# hdparm -t /dev/hda

/dev/hda:
 Timing buffered disk reads:   38 MB in  3.45 seconds =  11.01 MB/sec

Now it's
Code:
# hdparm -t /dev/hda

/dev/hda:
 Timing buffered disk reads:    8 MB in  3.20 seconds =   2.50 MB/sec

8O

I also get a lot of
Code:

I started an emerge and, by mistake, I hit hdparm again
Code:
# hdparm -t /dev/hda

That's really funny

I have posted a new patch with the siimage stuff fixed (hopefully). I also took care of the extraversion after tattoing it to my hand as a reminder. I would name it love1.1, but that sounds dumb. If you want, redownload and redigest and let me know how everything goes.

I have just seen reports of call traces appearing at boot related to i_size_write_check. I have posted a patch called i_size_write-check.patch at linuxmall that needs to be reverted to fix those. If you experience such a call trace, download the patch, then revert it.
Code:

cd /usr/src/linux
patch -p1 -R < /path/to/patch/i_size_write_check.patch

Don't forget to recompile and reboot to see the clean boot.

This has been a public service announcement. Had there been a real emergency, you would have been notified of the proper course of action to ensure your safety.

thanks for the new patches, my siimage compile error has gone away and i never got an opportunity to see the noise at boot but i did reverse the patch anyway.

*EDIT: linux 2.6.2 vanilla is out, just a matter of time for 2.6.2-mm1, and i have some new patch suggestions nick piggin has come up with some new vm patches, located here, may be worth a shot, but its up to you.

Tonight I tried the love sources for the first time. Everything compiled without a hitch and the system booted up without incident. To me the system feels snappier than it did under 2.6.2 rc2 mm1. Good work. I look forward to future releases. :D

Do you have the very latest version of libaal/reiser4progs?

The supermount code for reiser4 was changed last month I believe.
