My 'weekend' project has extended into today, and with all hurdles met, I proceeded to fire up xmms over ssh only to find it has no sound output. I sure wish this thing would stop mocking me... Lets get straight to it - output from dmesg: Code: |
Soundblaster audio driver Copyright (C) by Hannu Savolainen 1993-1996
sb: Creative SB32 PnP detected
sb ISAPnP reports 'Creative SB32 PnP' at i/o 0x220, irq 5, dma 1, 5
SB 4.16 detected OK (220)
sb: Interrupt test on IRQ5 failed - probable IRQ conflict
sb: 1 Soundblaster PnP card(s) found |
Wonderful. a quick cat /proc/interrupts shows this: Code: |
CPU0
0: 88482 XT-PIC timer
1: 2 XT-PIC keyboard
2: 0 XT-PIC cascade
5: 0 XT-PIC soundblaster
10: 1449 XT-PIC eth0
14: 1008 XT-PIC ide0
NMI: 0
ERR: 0 |
As just for completness - cat /proc/dma: Code: |
1: SoundBlaster8
4: cascade
5: SoundBlaster16 |
So where is the conflict?? At first, I had sound and the OSS module compiled into the kernel. Reading a similar thread here though I decided to compile them as modules and load sb on boot. Seems to have the same effect, just the error is last in dmesg rather than in the middle.
Any ideas guys? This is pretty much the last step, aside from some ssh key stuff, then this little project is complete. I'll post about it in GentooChat for those interested when it finally works.
ps. nevermind if the formatting looks wrong, couldn't cut-paste so I just typed it in. |

wow... 7 hours later and 4 views, this sure isn't a high traffic forum... or was my title too newbieish?
In anycase, problem solved. I did 3 things at the same time, but my best guess was that having eisa support compiled into the kernel was the main issue. I have no idea why I selected that in the first place. I also removed power management as well. And I put the card in a different slot before booting to the new kernel. Whatever, it works perfectly now and I should never have to touch it again, so I'm happy. |
