I'd wait until the ebuild hits at least the vmware overlay. (See bug 531682 about the difficulties e.g.) _________________ Important German:- "Aha" - German reaction to pretend that you are really interested while giving no f*ck.

There does seem like a lot of difficulties with 11 right now. I think I will wait for it to hit the overlay as suggested. |

Code: | Linux gentoo 3.18.11-gentoo #4 SMP Sun Apr 19 22:57:53 CEST 2015 x86_64 Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-3225 CPU @ 3.30GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux |
Code: |
VMware-Workstation-Full-11.1.0-2496824.x86_64.bundle
|
some kernel module doesnt get compiled . look like kernel api changed and vmware didnot take it into account.
any idea on how to get it to work ?
First try:
Code: |
./VMware-Workstation-Full-11.1.0-2496824.x86_64.bundle --uninstall-product vmware-workstation
mkdir /usr/local/portage
cd /usr/local/portage
git clone https://github.com/deploylinux/mattmGentooDevRepo.git
|
adding PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/usr/local/portage/mattmGentooDevRepo" to make.conf
Code: |
echo "<=vmware-workstation-10.0.3.1895310" >/ etc/portage/package.mask/vmware-workstation
|
Code: |
Calculating dependencies... done!

Use --autounmask-write to write changes to config files (honoring
CONFIG_PROTECT). Carefully examine the list of proposed changes,
paying special attention to mask or keyword changes that may expose
experimental or unstable packages.

linux_girl,
You don't start over with a kernel .config.
Using the .config you already have working, copy it to your new kernel tree.
cd to the new tree, that now has a copy of your .config.
run make oldconfig.
This silently drops symbols that are not in the kernel, uses the .config to set options that are still in the kernel and asks you about any symbols not already covered.
The process works both to move a .config from an older kernel to a newer one and from a newer kernel to an older one.
Once you have your legal .config, build and install it using your normal process. _________________ Regards,
