emerge --sync error

Maybe you right, but
USE=-ipv6
rsync recompiled with new use flags. But kernel i have compilled with ipv6 support.

today emerge --sync is doesn't worked

emerge-webrsync updated portage without errors...

But i have more question, cause i need use ipv6 for emerge --sync and if i use ipv4 i need to use emerge-webrsync !?!?!?!?!?!!?!?!

bla bla sommething changed.................... i just need to know what is changed... that may change my choise not in gentooway!

DNS maintainers published an IPv6 AAAA record for that host. If you are using a broken ISP that still cannot route IPv6 correctly, you should sync to a hostname that does not offer AAAA records or change your rsync configuration to use IPv4.

Since this seems to be affecting only you (I have seen no other complaints here about not being able to "emerge --sync" without ipv6) I would conclude that the problem is with your installation, not with portage.

Could you post your /etc/portage/make.conf? And, if you have one, your /etc/portage/repos.conf/gentoo.conf?

Can you post the new errors for failing rsync after disabling IPV6?

The additional retries are because your system is not built with IPv6, but the real error is at the end of the first attempt over IPv4:

Tried to find nearest mirrors and tried setting RSYNC_TIMEOUT="500"

But emerge --sync still doesn't worked.

I update rsync-3.0.9 to rsync-3.1.1
Recompilled portage and python:2.7

But nothing.

Well then I'd say get rid of clang and emerge @world and @system a few times to let your system rebuild itself.

I was suggesting you recompile WITHOUT clang. It's noted as giving unstable performance. If you're just using it for a single build, then you should put that in /etc/portage/package.use as it's currently a global USE flag on your system. This will cause problems as it means either you build what you want and then remove it, which causes it to rebuild later without the flag when you update, or you leave it there and your whole system builds with it.

IPv6 support does work on Gentoo, you currently have it disabled. Your other failure is unrelated to that, and is the cause of the IPv6 addresses being used as a fallback. I would start googling around for the messages from the rsync error I posted earlier. For example, the error references io.c line 140 (struct work_struct complete_work;/* deferred AIO completion */) and you have aio in your use flags. Might try rebuild without that.

Not to keep telling you to recompile everything, but I think your setup is the problem here, not Gentoo, or IPv6.

Bit of a necro here, but I just encountered this exact error on my machine and wanted to follow up. May not be the same problem but...I tried to execute as a normal user, and that's what caused it for me. Rerunning emerge --sync as root solved the problem.

need debug rsync command without python script...

emerge --sync - Still showed error!

emerge-webrsync - Now timestamp.x updated with erorr of emerge --sync and says that current local timestamp is possibly identical to the latest snapshot.

emerge-webrsync --revert option doesn't work?

I lost updates need reinstall portage tree with my hands!

If this is a new install, have you updated your system time and configured timezone and clock info properly?

This is no longer new install, i installed system on 10th of february, from that day rsync works 3-4 times well and sometimes only after emerge-webrsync. I think this is amount of information transfered through rsync stops synchronization process with timeout error.

clock=local; hwclock use time from bios.

Sometimes i get portage-latest.tar.bz2 from distfiles.gentoo.org remove old portage and manual install new portage .

Manual tests showed error on gentoo IP side cause other mirrors are works fine. Reason is not in ipv6 support.

So if gentoo-developers confronted with problems of rsync, they use git ))))))).

But if someone get problems with emerge --sync please don't use emerge python scripts for that, use rsync command.
