Code:

 >>>> Starting retry 4 of 4 with rsync://[2a01:90:200:10::1a]/getnoo-portage
rsync: getaddrinfo:  rsync.gentoo.org 873: Address family for hostname not supported
rsync error: error in socket IO (code 10) at clientserver.c(122) [Receiver=3.0.9]
 >>>>Retrying ...
 !!!!Exhaused addresses for rsync.gentoo.org

After 4 retry ??? So now gentoo need ipv6 addresses?

emerge-webrsync updated portage without errors...

DNS maintainers published an IPv6 AAAA record for that host. If you are using a broken ISP that still cannot route IPv6 correctly, you should sync to a hostname that does not offer AAAA records or change your rsync configuration to use IPv4.

As someone already told you in this thread, gentoo and getnoo are not the same thing. This is not an IPv4 vs IPv6 issue, though you seem to have an issue there as well. Correct your typo in /etc/portage/repos.conf/gentoo.conf and try again. Threatening to change to another type of Linux will not persuade anyone on these forums.

Still didn't synced today. And that is not an ISP problem.

I didn't want to threaten. But i confronted with problems that make me mad and that is not only ipv6 - ipv4 sync. Sorry for emotion questions if you can uderstand me.

Since this seems to be affecting only you (I have seen no other complaints here about not being able to "emerge --sync" without ipv6) I would conclude that the problem is with your installation, not with portage.

Could you post your /etc/portage/make.conf? And, if you have one, your /etc/portage/repos.conf/gentoo.conf?

Edit: Sorry, didn't see your post about copy/paste error.

Can you post the new errors for failing rsync after disabling IPV6?
Please also post your make.conf

I haven't /etc/portage/repos.conf in this installation.

The additional retries are because your system is not built with IPv6, but the real error is at the end of the first attempt over IPv4:
Quote:

Code:
[receiver] io timeout after 180 seconds -- exiting
rsync error: timeout in data send/receive (code 30) at io.c(140) [receiver=3.0.9]
rsync: connection unexpectedly closed (2902 bytes received so far) [generator]
rsync error: error in rsync protocol data stream (code 12) at io.c(605) [generator=3.0.9]
>>> Retrying...

You're getting connected, but timing out.
Try setting RSYNC_TIMEOUT=500 in your make.conf
(See here: https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-305269-highlight-rsync.html)

You also don't have any mirrors chosen in your make.conf, I would set that to something local. I don't know where you're located, but it looks like you're getting a server in England.
Code:

mirrorselect -i -o >> /mnt/gentoo/etc/portage/make.conf

mirrorselect -i -r -o >> /mnt/gentoo/etc/portage/make.conf

Cheers

Tried to find nearest mirrors and tried setting RSYNC_TIMEOUT="500"

But emerge --sync still doesn't worked.

I update rsync-3.0.9 to rsync-3.1.1
Recompilled portage and python:2.7

But nothing.

Well then I'd say get rid of clang and emerge @world and @system a few times to let your system rebuild itself.
Quote:

Please note that although clang tries to be compatible with gcc, not all packages build correctly with it. Although some of them simply fail to build, there are also cases when packages build fine but fail horribly when run.

See: http://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Clang

If that doesn't do it, I think I'm at the end of what I can do for you here. Good luck.

Also, I think you want -plymouth rather than -polymouth.

EDIT:

Also, the post I linked earlier is pretty old, and I noticed this further down, may want to try again with this instead of the other tag:
Quote:

Note: RSYNC_TIMEOUT is now depricated and it's just a matter of time before it's no longer supported. Change your /etc/make.conf to use PORTAGE_RSYNC_EXTRA_OPTS="--timeout=500" if you were previously using RSYNC_TIMEOUT=500.

Thanks for a tips with clang and plymouth, but i only recompilled llvm with clang support for mesa.

It's interresting thing to recompile @world or @system with clang - i would wait than it's done %) But in first gentoo-sources needs to recompile with clang if could it be better??? But i don't think that i could use it in near future.

If it's problem with ipv6 support, than you can't install gentoo properly on non ipv6 systems... Thats bad for gentoo.

I don't think that is my errors or problems of my provider, i think that is bakward compability problem.

I was suggesting you recompile WITHOUT clang. It's noted as giving unstable performance. If you're just using it for a single build, then you should put that in /etc/portage/package.use as it's currently a global USE flag on your system. This will cause problems as it means either you build what you want and then remove it, which causes it to rebuild later without the flag when you update, or you leave it there and your whole system builds with it.

IPv6 support does work on Gentoo, you currently have it disabled. Your other failure is unrelated to that, and is the cause of the IPv6 addresses being used as a fallback. I would start googling around for the messages from the rsync error I posted earlier. For example, the error references io.c line 140 (struct work_struct complete_work;/* deferred AIO completion */) and you have aio in your use flags. Might try rebuild without that.

Not to keep telling you to recompile everything, but I think your setup is the problem here, not Gentoo, or IPv6.

Cheers

I understand that if i leave clang feature and recompile whole system - i can get segmentation and other problems. Don't ask how...

Maybe may, but not must. If i using it for testing purpose for short time. It's just my testing desktop.
I using the whole system for single build - if it die, than i install new, that isn't a main system.

Rebuilding system those no need to updates. It's waste of my time.

Gentoo changing portage package very often(deleting old ebuild package, those installed on system, inluding updated version of the package those need сyclic dependencies without backward compability support), every new gentoo system install i get unique distribution system those lifetime can be low especialy if i updates system or even syncing of portage.

So i didn't update i using somme version of portage those package can live in system without conflicts.

If i needed to update somme package - i install on testing desktop stages and portage, testing updates for somme packages and if it works - then install updates on main system...

I helped in actualise http://openvz.org/Gentoo_template_creation wiki page. And i asked people who read this wiki-page not to bind portage from host system:
Quote:

Independed Gentoo portage tree for each container would be good idea, because newer portage can delete older ebuilds already installed in container with other dependences. Otherwise you can't reinstall already installed packages if you bind the newer version of portage in gentoo containers.

So now with systemd and ipv6 support i confronted with problems of actualization of those information.

I thinking about - frozzing the portage and use selected updates(only for packages those used in container work, cycling dependensies can't give you that updates... ). Especialy for containers, there not all the packages can work without conflicts.

My strategy is simple IPv6 isn't hardcoded, so why system can't work without him?

I already start googling but i just wanted ask here. Maybe i have acurate advice.

You give me interesting tip with aio. I just try recompile rsync or whatever...

I didn't find programms or libraries those need USE=aio - installed on my system

I think that situation can repeated and problem is amount of information transfered by rsync protocol OR DoS?

Bit of a necro here, but I just encountered this exact error on my machine and wanted to follow up. May not be the same problem but...I tried to execute as a normal user, and that's what caused it for me. Rerunning emerge --sync as root solved the problem.

Cheers

need debug rsync command without python script...

emerge --sync - Still showed error!

emerge-webrsync - Now timestamp.x updated with erorr of emerge --sync and says that current local timestamp is possibly identical to the latest snapshot.

emerge-webrsync --revert option doesn't work?

I lost updates need reinstall portage tree with my hands!

If this is a new install, have you updated your system time and configured timezone and clock info properly?

This is no longer new install, i installed system on 10th of february, from that day rsync works 3-4 times well and sometimes only after emerge-webrsync. I think this is amount of information transfered through rsync stops synchronization process with timeout error.

clock=local; hwclock use time from bios.

Sometimes i get portage-latest.tar.bz2 from distfiles.gentoo.org remove old portage and manual install new portage .

Manual tests showed error on gentoo IP side cause other mirrors are works fine. Reason is not in ipv6 support.
Code:

rsync --recursive --links --safe-links --perms --times --omit-dir-times --compress --force --whole-file --delete --stats --human-readable --timeout=180 --exclude=/distfiles --exclude=/local --exclude=/packages --verbose rsync://mirror.yandex.ru/gentoo-portage/ /usr/portage

Works fast.

rsync error: timeout in data send/receive (code 30) at io.c(137) [sender=3.0.9]
rsync: connection unexpectedly closed (4778913 bytes received so far) [receiver]
rsync error: error in rsync protocol data stream (code 12) at io.c(226) [receiver=3.1.1]

Rsync stops on select call and didn't get information through protocol.

Guess why? ISP problem?

So if gentoo-developers confronted with problems of rsync, they use git ))))))).

But if someone get problems with emerge --sync please don't use emerge python scripts for that, use rsync command.

Code:
rsync --recursive --links --safe-links --perms --times --omit-dir-times --compress --force --whole-file --delete --stats --human-readable --timeout=180 --exclude=/distfiles --exclude=/local --exclude=/packages --verbose rsync://mirror.yandex.ru/gentoo-portage/ /usr/portage
