Hello all. Brand new to Gentoo, though I'm a long-time FreeBSD/Linux user (mainly Arch). I've had a hell of a time getting Gentoo installed on my laptop, but I've finally done so, for the most part. I do have a lot of loose ends to tie up, including the one that's the subject of this thread.

I'm unable to install the package 'www-plugins/chrome-binary-plugins', as it 404's when trying to fetch:
Code:
Resolving dl.google.com... 64.233.183.91, 64.233.183.93, 64.233.183.136, ...
Connecting to dl.google.com|64.233.183.91|:443... connected.
HTTP request sent, awaiting response...  * Fetch failed for 'www-plugins/chrome-binary-plugins-40.0.2214.28_beta1'

I did come across this[1] thread, but the workaround shown within it does not work for me...i.e., flash simply crashes when it tries to load in my chromium window. Anyone have any ideas with what I'm doing wrong? Has anyone else come across this issue and resolved it?

Blame Google for that, they probably replaced it with a newer version.

I've had to work around it by masking the package

cat /etc/portage/package.mask
...
www-plugins/chrome-binary-plugins
...

Portage should then ask if you want to unmask the package below.

[ebuild NS #] www-plugins/chrome-binary-plugins-42.0.2305.3_alpha1:unstable [41.0.2272.53_beta1:beta] USE="flash widevine" 44,684 KiB
[uninstall ] www-plugins/chrome-binary-plugins-41.0.2272.53_beta1:beta USE="flash widevine"

Google must be struggling with storage space :\

Google must have promoted some windoze idiot to maintain the chrome-binary-plugins ebuild. Funny they are using .deb. Would think they would use a non flavor specific file type.

40.0.2214.115_p1 is marked stable
41.0.2272.64_beta1 is marked unstable
42.0.2305.3_alpha1 is marked hardmask

While portage wants to install 41.0.2272.63_beta1 which in not on the list, and will not download.

Somebody needs to send a text message to Larry or Sergey!

I can't download them; either; the fetch fails, and when I try to go to the website, I see a 404 error. I tried going up the directory structure, but found nothing.

Edit: But after another --emerge sync, I can install it again.
