Epson l555 printer

I'm trying to install the epson esc/p driver for my printer. First I downloaded the .src.rpm file which contained 2 archives and a .spec file, I tried executing the commands in the .spec file but when I got to ./configure it failed with this error: configure: error: *** '--prefix=/PATH' missing, please specify a prefix PATH ***
Next I tried the .rpm file, but this only contained a opt folder, I figured I had to copy it's contents to /opt, but CUPS still didn't see the driver. Where did I go wrong?

It's been a week and still no reply, I would appreciate it if someone would share what to do with the opt folder in the rpm file. The epson manual is u helpful, it only provides installation instructions for deb and rpm package management. Let me describe the problem a bit better, after extracting the rpm file a opt folder appears, but how do I add the printer using kde systemsettings --> printers --> add a printer --> name of printer --> select driver from list. The problem is that the driver is not in that list, now I could manually provided the ppd file, but for educational purposes I would like to know how to add it to the 'select driver from list' list.

Hi Andrew,
I had the same problem with an Epson XP750.
I finally ended up paying € 30 for a good driver:

Alas your printer is not (yet?) supported by them.
Forget about the kde printerconfiguration program.

I got the deb system running and printing but not very well.
There should be a "ppd" file with a line containing this line:
*cupsFilter: "application/vnd.cups-raster 0 /opt/epson-inkjet-printer******"
This means that your prefix for ./configure should be "--prefix=/opt".
If it is /usr then the prefix should be /usr and not /opt.

Once you manage to compile it you will have to open cups.
Needless to say cupsd should be running and the printer turned on.
Open your favorite inet browser and type "localhost:631" in the address space.
Start with Administration > Find new printers.
This might not turn up anything or it is found and you see a button "Add this printer".
Further down the configuration you can enter the path to the "ppd" file rather then choosing a printer from the list.

If you have Windows available install the Windows driver and other software.
This way you can upgrade the firmware of the printer.Not possible in Linux.

The same disk can be used for 32 and 64 bit installs.
