Hi,

there are few things which Im missing in gentoo install cd. Especially git client and version of wget which can communicate via tls 1.2, knows PFS and https-only option (:[).

Is there a way how I can take actual install cd and add/update few packages? In best case fully automated.

Thank you for feedback!

From reading these forums I question why we keep the minimal install CD so minimal. From what I recall there is plenty of room to add more to it and just a few additions would make it more usable for a greater amount of people. Especially in regards to hardware support. Maybe it is time to change this? It seems as it is now everyone on the forum suggests to simply use the system rescue cd instead.

The logic is simple. If you are a computer guy you already have SystemRescueCD (or similar) in your pocket. So you obviously will not go thru extra steps to download minimal ISO, burn it ... only to discover it does not support your networking hardware, for instance. If I remember correctly I installed my first Gentoo back in 2004 using Knoppix - because I already had it on a CD.

hi,

please consider as well that there is no need to download 3gb of data for gentoo installation. as said, minimal iso is almost perfect, but git and newer version of wget will be appreciated. i know its hard to recognize which packages are and which are not "important"...

if there is a way how I can easily modify latest minimal iso, it might be fine for some period of time (at least for me)

thank you

Exactly my point, SytemRescueCd is 395 MiB (and it is very handy in all situations - so one should have it anyway), not sure what is 3gb. Three grams and bars?

SystemRecuceCd isn't 3GiB but only about 480MiB.

http://www.sysresccd.org/Download

Beta version may be a little bigger. It probably has no GIT, but it is easy to add http://www.sysresccd.org/Sysresccd-manual-en_How_to_personalize_SystemRescueCd

SystemRescueCd is Gentoo-based.

hash sums as the only way for systemrescuecd iso verification (no gpg, no certificates)...

ok, so I would rather make feature request on gentoo bugzilla

GRML has SHA verification. It is not Gentoo based but it is a great tool to fix and administer any box.

BTW, I used to visit Prague every spring when I was living in Europe. Jaroslav Hašek is one of my favorite writers. There is no beer in the US that gets close to the beers sold in your beercellars. The old town is amazing ... but I will stop here ... these are Gentoo forums after all.
