"Look and feel" are usually codewords for "let's add lots of js to make it 'feel' modern" which is wrong on so many levels.
So let me be clear: no javascript. Simple clean CSS, that degrades gracefully. And make it work nicely in a text-browser first and foremost, as that is how you build accessible sites. |
No one mentioned Javascript but you. I would agree with your statement about CSS and building accessible sites. I have many times accessed the collective of *.Gentoo sites using links or similar text based browsers. Javascript CAN be useful for some things, and although I was not clear, I was not suggesting it be used on any Gentoo sites. I was simply building the case that Gentoo.org (and other sites) could be laid out in a cleaner, more intuitive look. So far I believe the "new look" (see below) does that well.
I thought it was funny on Christmas day, just a couple days after having this discussion, Wiki.Gentoo.org had a face lift which matches the Infra site.

Maffblaster ... but this "cleaner, more intuitive look" doesn't work (at least for me) ... unless I need to install, or enable, something2.0. When this happens it tends to send me to the basement to dig out a dot-matrix printer, and ... many hours later! ... hoisting the banner of militant retrofuturism. From the resulting sonicly induced trance (something I've come to call "the dot") I'm at the window taking pot shots at the merest flicker of a smart phone, yea and verily, impervious to any mention of that behemoth "new look". Yes, yes, the passion subsides, but the visions, often apocalyptic, persist: "best viewed on an iPad ... smiley face"
best ... khay (in the guise of a old testament technologist). |

Sounds like someone has been viewing a GitHub README or two. You funny guy. The last line gave you away. =) |
Maffblaster ... nope, I write all my own material. Though you having said that makes me think that either I'm reading (humourious) github README's and somehow erasing all memory of the fact, or someone has a tap on my subconcious.
Nope, khay[yam] ... best khay |

No one mentioned Javascript but you. | I did, but with its own thread https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-p-7672512.html#7672512.
I don't see any reason why wiki pages need crap like Quote: | <script src="https://1b9a50f4f9de4348cd9f-e703bc50ba0aa66772a874f8c7698be7.ssl.cf5.rackcdn.com/bootstrap.min.js"></script>

You've cut off the previous part of the post, which laid out why I mentioned js at all in this thread; it was in response to your desire for constant little tweaks to keep up with new media formats etc in HTML5, which has nothing to do with content, as well as for interfaces which guess what the user wants.
Like I said "look and feel" especially in the context of "keeping up with standards" tends to lead to loads of js crap, none of which helps the content. Though the recent changes Charles17 pointed out for "analytics" are even worse.
Nonetheless, you could have simply said you wanted clean CSS, and you didn't, til now. You rather just trotted out the usual "keeping up with the facepalms" line, from what I read. |

just repeating but it "has" be easily navigable without X say for example running links. _________________ “Music is a moral law.
