Okay, I cannot get my sound to in KDE to work. I have followed the ALSA Gentoo wiki and did all that I thought I was supposed to do but didn't work. After that I went back and changed the kernel configuration to a module instead built into the kernel following this site http://www.gentoo-wiki.info/Intel_DG965MQMKR#Sound When I bring up alsamixer it tells me that Code: | This sound device does not have any controls. | . Here is some other info that may help in figuring out what is wrong.
Code: | lspci | grep -i audio
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio Controller (rev 02) |
Code: | lsmod:
Module Size Used by
snd_hda_intel 15859 1
snd_hda_controller 18329 1 snd_hda_intel
snd_hda_codec 85025 2 snd_hda_intel,snd_hda_controller
iwl3945 52445 0
iwlegacy 46481 1 iwl3945
mac80211 411028 2 iwl3945,iwlegacy
snd_hwdep 6084 1 snd_hda_codec
snd_pcm 77810 3 snd_hda_codec,snd_hda_intel,snd_hda_controller
snd_timer 17798 1 snd_pcm
snd 53618 7 snd_hwdep,snd_timer,snd_pcm,snd_hda_codec,snd_hda_intel
soundcore 5002 2 snd,snd_hda_codec |
I have ALSA installed but not sure what else I need to do. Appreciate any help I can get.

When I bring up alsamixer it says "This sound device does not have any controls." I don't have any options to increase the volume. I try to select my intel sound card with the F6 Select Sound Card but "0 HDA Intel" is my only option. Not sure what is wrong. |

Chroot into ur system with the livecd and try # lspci -k to see which driver the kernel is using and see if your using the same one in ur kernel.
U seem to have it as a module. U can try having it built-in instead. |

do we need the sticky so? |
Why do you need a sticky? Don't you like answering the same question a million times?
All kidding aside. Thanks for your help even though I should have checked for a sticky first.
I fixed my sound by doing what you said in another post. I rebuilt my kernel with all the available HDA codecs built in and alsa found the right one for me. Know my sound works and I am a happy man! |
