Hi,
all users exept one have sound. The one lacking sound does not have that speaker icon in the header bar, and no audio modules under -> settings -> audio. In vlc and audacity one can select alsa-ouput, and that works. All other users have full fledged sound with all icons and modules where one wants them.

What on earth can cause this? It is an years-old (up-to-date) installation which is not easily build again from scratch, so I'd rather fix the issue instead of going into the hassle of a new install...

What information might you need to help?

Since the issue applies to a single user, move the home area somewhere else and create a new home area for the user ... if that works you can always copy information back.

no he's not (according to systemd or was it pulseaudio wiki he shouldn't)

Nevertheless, it doesn't help to add him.

at the end, jonathan made me find the solution in the arch linux wiki. It's as simple as deleting ~/.config/pulse and logging in again. Pulseaudio will then recreate the folder...

thanks,

I'm glad you got things sorted - it takes a bit longer to rename and start a fresh home area for a user ... but the advantage of this approach is you can compare the current and new information to track down what caused the issue (if you want to) & allows you to rule out quickly any misconfiguration/corruption of a users config

Can you mark the thread as solved as this may help others encountering similar issues in future 8)

I tried to mark my thread 'solved' but found I'm not allowed to change my post...
