Hey guys!
Since yesterday, when something about python seriously seemed to change, my emerge isn't working correctly anymore. Yesterday, Many python-packages were recompiled with:
Code:

PYTHON_TARGETS="python2_7 -python3_3 python3_4"

Also, python-3.3 was unmerged. There was an eselect news entry regarding it as well.

So far, so good. Today's update seems to cause to recurse yesterday's changes:
Code:

PYTHON_TARGETS="python2_7 python3_3* -pypy -python3_4*"

As I wanted to reassure about this by reading the eselect news article again, I found it disappeared.

Also, the emerges never seem to finish now, it's just keeping packages in queue, without ever merging them. On this i7-4770k, I have probably never waited more than 30 minutes for any package ;)

This is my emerge --info, hope someone can help to relumine me on this issue. Thanks!

Code:

emerge --info

I didn't try a sync and update yesterday - I just did when i read your post and I saw that python_targets_python3_2 has finally been removed (it was masked at the end of September), so all of the packages that had it were recompiled without it.
Looking at your post, it seems to me that python_targets_python3_3 instead of python_targets_python3_2 was removed by mistake yesterday, but it was added back - all of your packages were reemerged with python_targets_python3_3 enabled again, correct? But your emerge --info shows that python-3.3 is not installed (it wasn't pulled back in after unmerge yesterday). Try emerging python:3.3 and see if that fixes your problem. Also, what does eselect python list show?

Does emerge work correctly when run from a non-X virtual terminal?

Thanks for the answers. Yes, strangely from a non-X-terminal, emerge works just fine.
With python-3.3 being pulled back in, I suppose the problem to be solved.

I have previously seen users who use the proprietary nVidia drivers report strange problems when running emerge under X. This seems to be confirmed by the successful run when not under X. Please try running emerge from an X11 session that does not use the proprietary nVidia drivers.

Really? That's not the case here. After reverting the unmerge yesterday, now everything works fine again. I've never had problems with the proprietary nvidia-driver.

Some versions of the proprietary nVidia drivers corrupt the process signal mask, causing some configure tests to hang when they unexpectedly ignore certain signals. The Gentoo developers usually get those versions disabled once the problem is reported, but there is always the possibility that you had installed a bad version.

Hu: users reporting that problem use both the nvidia driver and the gnome terminal (for the cases i'm aware of), who is at fault, no idea, but it might just be the terminal and not the drivers.
