So I installed 2.6.1, and to my suprise, the nvidia driver (modified for 2.6 from minion.de) started working, which I hadn't gotten to work before (most likely my fault). At any rate, now my sound is broken. Volume control doesn't actually do anything, totem hangs briefly /' crashes / won't close / etc, and sound randomly cuts in and out.
On the plus side, the nvidia driver is working. heh.
I'm thinking it's the nvidia driver's fault, considering dmesg gives me this kind of stuff after i use sound:
Code: |

I'm not a total newbie to linux, but this goes way beyond my knowledge to fix. Any ideas?
edit:
using GeForce4 MX440, SB Audigy,
CFLAGS="-O3 -march=athlon-xp -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer -ffast-math -mmmx -m3dnow -msse -mfpmath=sse,387" <--- that might be my problem? |

I don't have an answer but I have the same message as the end of dmesg.
I have posted a question in the love-sources thread (as that is the kernel I am using) near the end of the 3rd page - perhaps a reply there can help you?
clicky
However, I do have sound and nvidia running flawlessly and always have, so perhaps the errors are not nvidia?
Edit: mine is mfpmath=sse, so not that I think - I'm still looking..
Edit2: I think the general consensus is that the messages are harmless, they certainly don't seem to affect anything on my setup. However, that doesn't help your problem. Sorry. |

Yeah, they definitely aren't the cause of this.. meaning i have an unstable system with no error messages to back it up. Nothing bad coming up in kernel logs.. |
