|
|
I've read the PulseAudio wiki page, and there is a part called "Without udev/systemd". Should I pay attention to that part, because I have switched to eudev as soon as I got Gentoo up and running because I wanted to avoid all the fuss with udev/systemd? Also, ALSA is currently working out of the box, I haven't modified any .conf files. Is it guaranteed that PulseAudio will work after following the wiki? Or will I have to edit some files or something?

Aformentioned Pulseaudio wiki
If you're moving to PA make sure you have all PA apps. You should re-emerge everything to USE=pulseaudio as suggested in the wiki. Having a mixture of ALSA and PA apps is asking for trouble.
PA likes udev. Though I have not switched to eudev on my non-systemd boxes, it should work fine as a substitute for udev/systemd and you won't need to follow that exceptions section. Consolekit is the other piece for non systemd users. The hope is that you won't have to muck with chmoding your /dev/dsp devices when different users login - CK 'should' handle permissions for you and you won't have people logging in remotely and playing nasty sounds on your speakers or snooping your microphone no matter who's logged in on console... _________________ Intel Core i7 2700K/Radeon R7 250/24GB DDR3/256GB SSD

Works for me with eudev on an otherwise standard desktop installation. Two, actually (one desktop with 2 soundcards and one laptop). |
