The latest kernel upgrade broke guvcview for me: there is no longer an image, and when I run it from a terminal it says, "Ignoring empty buffer ..." over and over again. My webcam isn't broken, though, as skype works just fine. Does anyone know how to fix this? |

Teegrins, coffeecat!
Do you also get video if you switch Camera Output (in guvcview) to RGB3 or BGR3?
Are you able to tell which kernel version worked, and which doesn't?
I noticed this when I went from 3.14.4 to 3.16.4. I believe here is a bug about it, which also mentions a fix being done upstream, and that updating guvcview might help as well (version not yet in Portage).
I hope this helps! _________________ Kindest of regardses. |

I don't get video with any camera output setting, including RGB3 or BGR3. The kernel upgrade was from 3.14.14 to 3.16.5. I tried installing guvcview 2.0.1, but it wants sdl2 >= 2.0, and I don't know what that is or how to get it. I suppose I could always go back to the old kernel until the new guvcview gets into portage. (So long as it's somebody else's bug and not my poor sysadmin skills!) |

Hrm. That's a bit surprising. I was almost sure you would!
I guess it may depend on the camera a bit, or some other variable.

It does still seem to me like it could be the same issue indeed, even if showing itself in a bit different way.

I haven't tried myself (yet), but if I'd have to guess, I'd probably try media-libs/libsdl2 for that. _________________ Kindest of regardses. |
