I have been trying to troubleshoot this for a while now but I cannot find the solution. I have definitely pinpointed the problem but do not know how to fix this. I have both Linux Gentoo 64 and Windows 8.1 hosts for vmware workstation (latest) and also Gentoo 64 guests running on both hosts. About 10 months ago or so I started seeing that my Gentoo guests would freeze doing either logout, shutdown or reboot from any desktop Gnome or kde. If I switch to tty2, login and run the command reboot or shutdown -h now the guest vm does so immediately with no issue. All hosts and guests are ~arch and running systemd. If I uninstall open-vm-tools the problem immediately goes away but of course desktop does not auto resize anymore. I have also tried the proprietary vmware tools and the freezes are exactly the same.
Anyone experiencing this or have any clues? _________________ Billy DeVincentis |

There is some incompatibility with all other versions of xorg-server other than 1.15.2, downgrading to 1.15.2 solves the problem _________________ Billy DeVincentis |
