If you compile perl5 on a different machine or from a different object
directory, copy the Policy.sh file from this object directory to the
new one before you run Configure -- this will help you with most of

I recall what helped was several times looping through "emerge --depclean" "perl-cleaner --reallyall"

Sorry, they didn't work, but I did find something interesting when I opened config.h

Code:

#define HAS_SOCKET              /**/
#define HAS_SOCKETPAIR  /**/
/*#define       HAS_SOCKADDR_SA_LEN     / **/
#       HAS_MSG_CTRUNC  /**/
#       HAS_MSG_DONTROUTE       /**/
#       HAS_MSG_OOB     /**/
#       HAS_MSG_PEEK    /**/
#       HAS_MSG_PROXY   /**/
#       HAS_SCM_RIGHTS  /**/
#define HAS_SOCKADDR_IN6        /**/
#define HAS_SIN6_SCOPE_ID       /**/
#define HAS_IP_MREQ     /**/
#define HAS_IP_MREQ_SOURCE      /**/
#define HAS_IPV6_MREQ   /**/

I am sure the "#" lines are incorrect for C.... it should be #define or #include, but not standalone "#"

after changing the above lines ...

Looking at Perl, and searching for the required lines, I find the following (emerge perl, <ctrl-C> after patching and before `sh Configure`

some lines show the line commented out "/*"
some lines show "#define"

now, it seems that something is happening that is removing the "define" directive, or only the "#" part is being inserted, and not the complete directive of "#define"

I have compiled perl on the command line, using the same config.sh as Gentoo is using for emerge, I have also run `make test` to confirm that the perl instance was built correctly with 100% success, and then `make install` but of course, portage has not registered it as installed :(

Code:

perl --version

This is perl 5, version 18, subversion 2 (v5.18.2) built for x86_64-linux

now running perl-cleaner... I now get a unrelated blocker :(

Code:

B
[blocks B      ] sys-fs/udev ("sys-fs/udev" is blocking sys-apps/gentoo-systemd-integration-4, sys-apps/systemd-215-r3)
[blocks B      ] sys-apps/gentoo-systemd-integration ("sys-apps/gentoo-systemd-integration" is blocking sys-fs/udev-216)
[blocks B      ] sys-apps/systemd ("sys-apps/systemd" is blocking sys-fs/udev-216)

Interesting..

[code]
/*#define HAS_SOCKADDR_SA_LEN / **/
[code]

If anyone knows C, a comment is thus /* comment goes here */

there is a start of comment at the end of the line, but there is a added space character between the "/" and the "*" character, this means that the following lines are not in the comment field?
