I need 3 monitor displays sharing the same desktop. I was going install 2 nvidia cards to do this. Is this possible in X11 and Linux itself? Using Compiz for window manager.

So, you want to display the same thing in all the three monitors?

You should be able to do this with either Xinerama or XRandR. Note however that the status for RandR in nVidia is not so good. If you want to do with that option you should use cards that work with the radeon driver. Either you will be relegated to the -older- Xinerama extension. As far as I know, nVidia's twinview only supports up to 2 screens (I could be wrong on that though).

In any case, I think that you should be able to find cards which will support three monitors without much effort, you only need to find adapters from S-Video to VGA or DVI, that would simplify your setup a little bit ;)
