I have a problem that appears to be ungoogleable. When I view a video on my left monitor or try to use anything for that matter that uses gl, it basically freezes. You'll get a few frames of video and the system will be unresponsive, but you'll eventually regain control and the system continues. But on my right monitor the videos or glxgears or whatever play just fine. If I gradually move a video to the left monitor, the portions that are on the left play just fine, no problem whatsoever until I get almost exactly half way, then it freezes. This problem does not affect youtube videos. This affects both mplayer and vlc.

This all happened because of a software update (not kernel). The thing is that this happened when I first set up this machine and I SOLVED IT, but I have no idea what the hell I did. I could swear it was a package update like ffmpeg or mplayer or maybe the xf86-driver-intel, but nothing I try seems to affect anything. The fact that I've been using this computer for 8 months to view all sorts of video on both monitors with no problem attests to the fact that it should work. I eventually updated my kernel to the latest one but that didn't help.

Nothing looks untoward in Xorg.0.log, except for a line that says "GLX: Initialized DRI2 GL provider for screen 0", which is only weird because it doesn't say anything about screen 1, but I don't know if it ever did.

Both the monitors are the same, both connected via hdmi. The hdmi of the problem monitor goes to a mini something port, but again, that has always been the case.

I have no xorg.conf (never needed it).

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Curious as to what your xrandr says about how your displays are being handled?
