This is an FYI post. I recently installed Google Chrome (both source and binary) On a new x86_64 system using a dual-head display via xrandr (x11-apps/xrandr-1.4.1). On start-up both installs of chrome rendered ludicrously slow or even failed to run. The problem appears to be between xrandr and chrome. In short the rendering engine does not like dual-head setups, at least like mine, and will not run. In single-head mode, however, chrome and chromium operate fine.
This is also true of mplayer. When attempting to play a video on dual-head setup the player will run show or crash. It only works when running 'mplayer -vo x11' which of course prevents resizing and full-screen mode.
I am not sure why this occurs but am putting this out there as a note to others. _________________ Linux, the OS for the obsessive-compulsive speed freak in all of us. |
