How can I display the doc files in /usr/share/doc/ without having to extract them somewhere first. I am using gnome2. I know the man pages are compressed the same way.
Is there a way to set it up so I just have to click on the file to view it in nautilus or a text viewer/editor?
Thanks ... Brian |

generally you can always fall back on:
zless /path/to/README.gz
i am not using nautilus right now, but iirc you can associate a viewer with filetype *.gz, for example zless -- a click on README.gz should open up in a terminal window.
i'm sure there are better alternatives though... |

Thanks, I just tried zless, that works for me.
I wonder if the gnome help system could be modified slightly to be able to browse all the /usr/share/doc/ files much like the man pages? It would come in handy.
Any thoughts?
