I don't get it how to configure the timezone with systemd in a correct way:
Code: |
# timedatectl
Local time: Tue 2014-08-19 15:26:40 CEST
Universal time: Tue 2014-08-19 13:26:40 UTC
RTC time: Tue 2014-08-19 13:26:40
Time zone: Europe/Berlin (CEST, +0200)
NTP enabled: yes
NTP synchronized: no
RTC in local TZ: yes
DST active: yes
Last DST change: DST began at
Sun 2014-03-30 01:59:59 CET
Sun 2014-03-30 03:00:00 CEST
Next DST change: DST ends (the clock jumps one hour backwards) at
Sun 2014-10-26 02:59:59 CEST
Sun 2014-10-26 02:00:00 CET
Warning: The RTC is configured to maintain time in the local time zone. This
mode is not fully supported and will create various problems with time
zone changes and daylight saving time adjustments. If at all possible, use
RTC in UTC by calling 'timedatectl set-local-rtc 0'.
|
As the wiki page says I should use the UTC time which I did (RTC to UTC) but which I dropped since someone wrote I should not do that if I have Windows installed as well.
Although I've enabled NTP it does not seem to synchronize. Why is the local time two hours later and how can I set the localtime to UTC?! |

Not sure if I understand the question...
You can get a list of timezones by running
timedatectl list-timezones
Then you can use
timedatectl set-timezone UTC
(despite it not being listed) and then local time would be UTC... Why I'm confused is I don't know why anyone would want their local time to be UTC, unless you want to make your computer completely unaware of locale? _________________ Intel Core i7 2700K/Radeon R7 250/24GB DDR3/256GB SSD

I have a query regarding the zoneinfo dir.... in the last timezone change I got the regular "you have an incorrect listing in your timezone file"
there was extra info in the installation messages to the effect that you use zoneinfo-leap,on the followup of the url I looked closely at the directory and there is not a leap dir listed within but there is a file zone.tab which looks as if it includes the leap seconds info.
QUESTION do we use the zoneinfo-leap/xxxx or just zoneinfo/XXXX ?????????????
all replies gratefully accepted |

Modern versions of Windows do support UTC, so if you are using one (later than Windows XP, as far as I remember), configure it to use UTC, and do the same for your linux. _________________ Greybeard |
