The title really says it all. When I do iwconfig it shows that there is a wireless network detected on my Thinkpad X61 but ping or anything doesn't work. I just get the unknown host error. I've tried pkill dhcpcd and reopening dhcpcd. I've did everything on the documentation, basically use net-setup and push all the network information in manually but none of that has worked. Thanks for your time, and I'm looking forward for any help. |

Are you just starting an install and reporting problems using an installcd? if an installcd, which one?
Have you completed an install and you are reporting problems with the installed system?
Do you have a wired connection that works? _________________ Defund the FCC. |

I have not installed yet and I'm installing with the most recent installcd.
I do not have a working wired connection. |

The minimal install cd is only supports unprotected or WEP connections and lacks firmware support for any NIC that requires a proprietary firmware binary blob (most modern NIC's). Gentoo can be installed using almost any working linux or linux livecd as long as bitness is the same as the intended install and it supports the chroot command. If you intend to install as UEFI vice legacy BIOS mode the installing linux should be UEFI. The gentoo based system rescue cd or system rescue usb is IMHO the best and most versatile choice.
No part of the install system becomes part of the installed system. Booting sysreccd to the xfce4 GUI brings the ability to install in a terminal window with the handbook in a browser window next to it.
Keep asking until comfortable. _________________ Defund the FCC. |
