Hi all! 
I hope someone can help me please. I'm having issues with the microphone. I can't get this works :/
I have a realtek ALC887-VD2 sound card, and a eye PS3 cam. none of them works. I just can get an awful noise of background. I tried connecting the mic (headphones) on the back and on the front. The eye cam works fine with video, but nothing of sound :/

I don't know what other information can you give. I am an awful newbie configuring the sound, I don't even know how I made walking the speakers jaja

Hi spanish partner 
If you have ALSA, check the volumen control of each device. You can run "alsamixer" in console.
If you have pulseaudio, try emerging "pavucontrol" and check each device. |

Do You have active devices in the kernel?
Realtek is enabled with Intel-HD sound. The cam in USB and Multimedia.
What used to check the microphone? I recommend guvcview.
Show the "journalctl -b" or "dmesg" please. |

I know 2 pitfalls with sound:
1) mic boost (usualy you can empower your mic by 20db) - this must be enabled in mixer controls before you can get any sensible input
2) sometimes it's nessesery to provide additional options to kernel modules. /etc/modprobe.d/alsa.conf is the good place to do so, however you would have to know what to append there. In my case I my sound device appears as 2 devices (and only 1 of those work), and I had to provide options that would make correct one selected as system default.
No idea if any of those could be of any help to you, but I though it might be worth to point those directions.
Ah, and that "awful noise of background" often comes from inputs hanging in the air. If you attach some other device, it should ground the noise for you. Otherwise, you can simply mute inputs you don't use |

I'm not sure what to do  . I can't understand the alsa.conf file. 
Someone that have more ideas?  |
